Her Story
We met in 2012, started dating in 2014 and now we are getting married….
Okay, one fine day in the year 2012, I went to New York for the weekend and I met Ayomide. We hit it off as friends and stayed in contact. We would talk from time to time but communication became more constant towards the end of 2013
I started to notice that he was messaging me more frequently and taking more interest in my day-to-day activities. We both visited Nigeria at the end of that year and hung out a few times during the festive season. It was then that I concluded he was definitely catching feelings.
At the beginning of 2014, we had graduated from messaging to constant phone calls. It was at this time I started having romantic feelings towards Ayo. We continued learning more about each other as the year went by.
During the summer I went to New York to visit my aunt. While I was there I spent some time with Ayomide. We went on a date and towards the end of my trip he told me how he felt about me and what his intentions were, and how he was dying to marry me 🙂
I was so happy because I felt the exact same way; it’s a day I’ll never forget. We were officially an item some time after that day. Scroll down for the unabridged version.
His Story
Lamide aka Lammz aka Lame aka Lamdodo and I met during the spring of 2012 through our mutual friend Titi. Lamide was on the tip of Titi’s tongue and became a household name at 1607 River Court Drive. Being the inquisitive fellow that I am, I thought to myself “I definitely have to meet this Lamide”. She came to visit Titi and the rest is history.
Ok, I left out a few details, actually …. a lot of details. So she came to visit us from her village in Pennsylvania for lack of anything better to do. Classic story of small town girl visiting the big city.
On her first visit Lamide slept till God knows when. As we all know she can sleep for Africa. Sleeping beauty arose and finally made her way to the living room and we exchanged pleasantries. Kept it friendly and courteous. Breakfast (my award winning pancakes) was made by yours truly. That was the bait.
She came to visit again a few times and little did she know that she was coming to visit me. We kept in touch though our communication was sporadic. Interestingly during some of our conversations, I always made mention of looking for Caro but she didn’t get the hint.
Fast forward to the latter part of 2013, we started to communicate more frequently and I got the impression that she was warming up to me. Her text messages graduated from ‘guy how far’ to ‘hi boo’. That’s when I knew that I was about to win the lottery. Spent christmas hanging out as friends in Nigeria and after a few outings, we got to know each other on a deeper level. She motivated me to rejuvenate my relationship with God. I will be forever be grateful to her for this.
Fast forward to 2014, started the new year on a great note thanks to Lamide. Was transferred to London for a few months. During that time we kept in touch. I remember speaking with her on my birthday which was probably one of my happiest moments in that month. Finished my stint in London and came back stateside. Missed her graduation but made up for it with a pleasant surprise on her birthday.
She told me about moving to Cali for grad school and I thought to myself that I had to let her know how I felt. It was time to elevate this friendship to the next level. Conveniently she was visiting New York for one last hoorah before moving to Cali. I was like omo it’s time to seize the bae. I sprung into action. Booked dinner reservations at a nice restaurant in the city. Went as friends, had a great conversation, which involved inquiring about long term goals.
Towards the end of her trip to NY, I came clean and spilt the beans about how I felt about her. I made it clear that I was serious and looking to invest in a relationship with the purpose of exploring a future together. She kept quiet and smiled. Her first words were “Took you long enough”. She expressed that she had been waiting for me to make a move. One of the happiest days in my life.
She went back to Philly but returned to New York for a last visit before relocating to Cali. I made a candle lit dinner in my matchbox apartment in the city. I wrote her a letter to officially ask her to be my girlfriend, read it to her and the rest is history. More to come. Stay tuned for season 2.
